This article will teach you about how to apply tags to text passages in your notes.
Applying existing tags to text
- To apply a tag to a text passage within a note, first select the text passage. The tag selector will appear on the right side of your note. The tag selector will show you all tags of this project, as well as all global tags, in their respective groups.
- By entering something in the tag selector’s search field, you can filter tags by their name. Then, only tags or groups that match your query are shown. You might have to expand a tag group (by clicking on it) to find the tag you are looking for.
- Select the tag you wish to apply from the tag selector. To select the tag, you can either use the mouse or use the arrow keys on your keyboard and press <kbd>ENTER</kbd>.
đź’ˇYou can use analysis mode to speed up your tagging and data analysis.
Applying a new tag to text
- Select a text passage in the note. The tag selector will appear on the right side of your note.
- Type the new tag name into the tag selector’s input field.
- Click on <kbd>Create tag</kbd>. This will create a new tag and apply it to the selected text.
Using the tag selector
The tag selector consists of four visually distinct “modules”: the search, pinned tags, tag groups, and (if enabled) sentiment analysis.

You can use the tag selector with your mouse or by navigating through the different elements with the arrow keys.
Tags are shown in their respective groups. Tag groups can be collapsed and expanded by either clicking on them or by using the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard.
Pinning tags
You can pin up to 5 tags to the top of the tag selector. These tags can be applied to the text with keyboard shortcuts <kbd>Ctrl + [1-5]</kbd>. Pins are stored for each project individually.
- Select a text passage in the note. The tag selector will appear on the right side of your note.
- In the tag selector, hover over the tag you want to pin. A pin symbol appears next to it.
- Click on the pin symbol to pin the tag. You can change the pinned tags’ order by using drag and drop. This also changes their respective shortcuts.
Similarly, pinned tags can be unpinned by clicking on their respective pin symbol.
Alternatively, tags can be pinned and unpinned by selecting them via the arrow keys on the keyboard and pressing “p”.
